At Smiles by Garcia, patients in and around the area of Austin, TX have a wide selection of cosmetic treatments to choose from for their smile. If imperfections of the smile are impacting the way you feel about your appearance, you may want to ask the team of professionals about aesthetic options such as porcelain veneers and Lumineers.
Porcelain veneers. vs. Lumineers
Both of these treatments are readily available in our practice, but some patients are unsure on the differences between the two. Both are restorations that are commonly used on the anterior (front) teeth to disguise specific problems, such as permanent staining, gaps between the teeth, or broken teeth. The restorations are custom made for patients with color matching and size matching to ensure that they look just like the natural teeth when bonded in place. However, the similarities stop there. The primary difference between conventional porcelain veneers and Lumineers is the thickness of the restorations. Lumineers are incredibly thin, which means that they can be placed over the teeth without removing any natural enamel from the front. This allows patients to have them in their smile, but without the commitment. Porcelain veneers require the patient to file down a portion of the natural tooth enamel from the front of the tooth to eliminate bulkiness from the restoration. This means that once patients have chosen to move forward with porcelain veneers, they will need to maintain them over the years. Lumineers can be removed at any time, and patients can then consider alternative options if they so desire. This versatility makes Lumineers a wonderful option for patients who need to address imperfections in the smile but are not interested in making a lifetime commitment to one single type of restoration.
